The Wolves

You live in blissful ignorance of the predator knocking at your door

I have seen the wolf steal the sheep, but he takes so little,

so gradually, that you call me a liar

How do I show you the differences from now and then?

You call me a liar, but you can't see what I see

You won't.

Why don't you notice my fear?

Why can't you see my distraughtness, my misery?

When you have dined with wolves all your life, you accept them more naturally than humans

You do not live in fear of them eating your young

Once they have shown their monstrous motives, you will still be surprised

You will still believe their innocence, even when your sheep are gone and your children's blood is on the wolf's tongue

I can see the wolves

I can feel their sharp teeth closing around me.

Are my concerns still worthless?

I will be gone before you start to care, anyway.

I will become another fairytale,

another child forcibly tricked and eaten by wolves.
